- Studying Abroad in Ecuador~
So. I have been wanting to study abroad in Spain for a while, but I've faced the fact that it's more money than I will be able to earn in time, and at this point it would be a TON of extra work. I mean, I'll have enough trouble as it is studying every day regular Spanish vocabulary and doing schoolwork, I don't want to pile on new pronunciation, new vocabulary (to replace the ones I already know, like coche and carro) and new verb conjugations on top of that.
I would be in another country for the entire 2009-2010 school year, when I will be a senior in high school.
Ecuador is my second choice, then! I've been trying to research as much as I can about it, but what I really, really want is the journals of people who have done high school homestays there (Because that's what I'll be doing). College is fine too, but high school is preferred - as hard as I know that will be to find, based on that so far I haven't even found journals for college people yet. The best thing I have going for me is that I joined some LJ studying abroad/travel communities, and I posted things asking about Ecuador, and I got a reply from one girl who went there in college thirteen years ago and one person who went to Spain a few years ago.
Ecuador's changed a lot in thirteen or so years, though. Like, they've adopted the US dollar now.
So, I know this might be a stretch - but I know a few of you speak Spanish fluently, at least - so I was hoping someone had information of this sort on Ecuador? What it's like to live there, especially if you're a foreigner or a student, would be wonderful. Or links to someone's blog where they stayed in Ecuador.
For the studying abroad, they say the kids end up being placed close to Quito. So I've been trying to find information for that area. My third choice of stay is Argentina, but from what I've found out about there, I don't want to go there hardly at all. For one, I don't like beef. For two, it's expensive buying things there. And I'm going to have to buy things no matter where I go, because host families don't pay for things like clothing or school supplies or toiletries. D:
